We are Val Holmes and Claude Vallin with two children, Lucy (12) and Joanne (8). Claude has lived in the area all his life. Val has lived in France for the last 16 years. We have 15 years of experience in providing holidays - this is our new venture in a small town setting - a change from our countryside gites and your holidays spent in cars. Here you can walk to the shops, supermarkets, park or restaurants and bars. Stay in our beautiful maison bourgeoise situated in the heart of Luçon, a small friendly town in the South Vendee, or in our very comfortable gîte in a barn conversion in the garden.
At the end of our first year our clients have commented on how wonderful it is to spend a holiday where everything is so close and handy - a real change, and they would certainly recommend it and do it again.
Here's part of a letter we received from Mr T who came for ten days this winter:
"We very much liked having a 'town' gîte. The gîte was warm and comfortable. We have spent many holidays in gîtes all over France but we have always been in the country before. having restaurants and lots of shops, encluding two supermarkets within easy walking distance was a new experience - as was the lit-up cathedral and the Jardin Dumain".

Val Holmes is a well known Textile artist and author on the subject, Claude is an artist and draughtsman, concentrating mainly in etchings. La Villa des Roses has a gallery where their work is on permanent exhibition, and each artist has a studio space which can be visited . Val gives courses in her groundfloor studio.
La Villa des Roses is a stylish 1930's Art Deco Maison Bourgeoise with 4 bed and breakfast rooms; two of which form a family suite.
Gite : There is a four bedroomed gite in the garden with its own private terrace. The rooms are spacious. Each of the bedrooms is ensuite with bath or shower, including one suitable for the disabled. This property can also be let as a one or three bedroomed property in low season.
All bed and breakfast rooms and all gite bedrooms have their own shower or bathroom and WC. The family suite has a shower room and seperate WC. A disabled bedroom for B&B is available in off-peak season.
The heated tiled swimming pool is salt treated for a more comfortable swim. and is situated in a large fenced paved terrace with poolside furniture. There is a bar with summer kitchen available for B&B guests.
The garden with trees, lawns and flower borders is completely enclosed behind an art deco gate.
For house hunters we may be able to offer helpful local advice. Claude is an expert on planning and planning applications and can do any plans you need for your new house too. We have succesfully designed and concluded many barn conversion projects so could help with yours too.
Evening meal Wednesdays and Sundays 20€ adults, 15€ 11-16 year old, 12€ under 10, or to order in off peak season.
How to get here:
From the A83 motorway junction
for Ste hermine/Luçon take Luçon. After two villages you meet the roundabout
with the D949 Fontenay or Luçon. Turn right to Luçon and Sables d'Olonne.
Continue through 3 roundabouts always taking centre ville or going straight on.
Continue until you pass the Cathedral on your left as you take a single
direction traffic section with the Tourist Information Office on your right. You
rejoin two way trafic just after the post office heading towards Les Sables
d'Olonne. You are now on the right road. After about 300m there is a
butchers on your right (often with a sign outside) and our house (number 43 in
pink granite - the only house of its kind in Luçon) opposite on the left.
