Sea Lace
A trip to the sea and then we will be working with images of the sea in photos as a starting point for inspiration we will look at the lacy qualities of the sea and sea shore through different "lace" techniques, from embroidery on solubles to burning synthetics. You will have lots of samples and one or two finished pieces.

A machine can be reserved for your use if you cannot bring your own
price: 850€ full board in own room, 800€ if sharing with a friend or partner. 350€ non-embroiderer sharing room. Self-catering on application. Materials included. Non-embroiderers may accompany us on all visits.

Sea Themes
A course for the more advanced student working with workbooks, sketches and drawings, found objects and photographs. A fun course looking at working from a theme and creating from that theme in a realistic or abstract way, in two or three dimensions. The first day is spent visiting the local ports and seaside for drawing, photography and collecting bits and pieces, information and inspiration, with lunch in a seaside restaurant. The next four days in the studio will see you working from this collection to establish a means of representing the theme through textile and mixed media and creating a workbook which will help find the path to take.
There will be surprise visits throughout the week to keep the questioning and ideas flowing. These visits are outside normal studio times.
The learning process will be about how to explore a theme, pull something personal from it, and interpret that into textiles. By the end of the week you should have some idea where your superb ideas book could be leading.....
Times: Sunday afternoon/early evening arrival for evening meal, Monday morning start. Course from 9.30 to 5.00 every day. Wednesday afternoon free if desired. Saturday morning departure after breakfast. The studio may be open all hours for students wishing to work longer hours. This course is full of visits and extras, we therefore reserve the right to alter the usual evening program of a four course evening meal where necessary.
